Going Green In 2020

When you think about the future, what comes to mind? Do you think of the goals you hope to achieve by then? Do you know who you'll be, or hope to be? Do you think about how your body will look and the shape it'll be in? When I think of the future, I think about our oceans. Did you know that by 2050, our oceans are expected to contain more plastic than fish? I’m bothered by this, and you should be, too.

Believe it or not, 80 million tons of plastic are produced every year. Plastic manufacturing is doubling every decade. Sadly, the truth is that only 9% of all the plastic ever manufactured is recycled. The rest of it has either been buried, burned, dumped into the environment, or sitting in a landfill. Sickening, right? It’s no surprise to see plastic cups and bottles littering the sidewalk, strewn about in parking lots, overflowing trash cans at clubs, and piling up in people’s cars. That’s the price of convenience; it’s inescapable and unacceptable.

If you have shopped from us in the past month or so, you may have noticed that I've replaced our poly mailers with a new custom tissue. As a business that requires the use of additional resources (compared to an average person), I want to make 2020 the year we set high manufacturing standards for Rapteez. It’s irresponsible to stand by and do nothing when there's endless plastic waste around us and undeniable climate change. We are syced to offer our customers green packaging that's completely eco-friendly.

Our custom tissue is made from a cellulose fiber and completely acid-free. It is also lignin- and sulfur-free, meaning that the ink won’t transfer from the tissue and the paper won’t leave behind any of these chemicals when decomposing.

Our custom packaging tape is made from a gummed kraft paper that is eco-friendly and recyclable. The water-activated gum tape forms a strong bond to your box once applied. When it’s time to get rid of the box, you can leave the packaging tape on and recycle it alongside other items. The tape itself is biodegradable and repulpable.

More importantly, our tissue is FSC Certified. The FSC or Forest Stewardship Council certifies that paper products are sourced from a forest and supply chain that is managed responsibly and sustainably. FSC forest management standards are developed at an international level and are then adapted to individual countries’ legal, social, and geographical settings, through national standards.

The year 2020 is bound to be a big one and Rapteez is making the most of it. We're going green, using sustainable products, and educating our customers, without sacrificing quality or style. Our core values we want to truly bring to life in a big way this year. We must all do our part to reduce, reuse, and recycle in order to make our planet a better place. I hope you join us in making meaningful changes that reduce your environmental impact.

Much love,

Kosta
